The December edition of Kodansha's Afternoon magazine announced on Wednesday that Haruko Ichikawa's manga, "Land of the Lustrous" (Hōseki no Kuni), will be taking a break until early spring 2024. The reason behind this hiatus has not been disclosed by the magazine.

The last time the manga went on a hiatus was in December 2020, and it made its return in June 2022.

Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the English version of the manga and describes the story as follows:

In a world inhabited by crystalline beings known as "The Lustrous," each unique gem must fight for their existence against the threat of the "lunarians" who seek to turn them into decorations. Phos, the most fragile and brittle gem, aspires to join the battle. When tasked with completing a natural history record of their world, it initially seems like a dull and pointless task. However, this new assignment brings Phos into contact with Cinnabar, another gem condemned to a life of isolation. Can Phos' seemingly mundane task lead to the satisfaction they both yearn for?

Ichikawa launched "Land of the Lustrous" in Kodansha's Afternoon magazine in 2012, and the twelfth compiled volume of the manga was released in November 2022.

The anime adaptation, consisting of 12 episodes, premiered in October 2017. During its airing, HIDIVE streamed the series outside the United States and Canada, and later in June 2018, the anime was made available to viewers in the United States and Canada. The Amazon Anime Strike service, which is no longer available, also streamed the series in these regions. Sentai Filmworks released the anime in a complete steelbook collection in January 2019.
