Wit Studio teased that during a panel at this year's Anime NYC event on November 18th at 12:45 p.m. EST, they will announce updates regarding their original anime series, 'Great Pretender.' The company showcased a video teaser during the announcement.

The panel will feature the presence of Production I.G and Wit Studio President George Wada, director Hiro Kaburagi, and producer Hitoshi Itō.

Anime NYC 2023 is set to take place from November 17th to 19th, maintaining its usual venue at the Javits Center in New York City.

The anime series premiered in July 2020 on Fuji TV's +UItra programming block, spanning two seasons with a total of 23 episodes.

Netflix commenced the anime's international streaming in August 2020. While Netflix held worldwide exclusivity, its release in Japan preceded the launch in other regions.

Anime Limited will handle the home video release in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The story follows Makoto Edamura, self-proclaimed 'Japan's greatest swindler,' on an unexpected journey from Tokyo to Los Angeles, involving an incident with the Hollywood sign.

Directed by Hiro Kaburagi, with character design by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, scripts by Ryota Kosawa, and music composed by Yutaka Yamada, the series features the opening song 'G.P.' and closes with 'The Great Pretender' sung by the late Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury, marking a milestone as the first Japanese anime to feature a Mercury song.

On another note, Daichi Marui began a manga adaptation of the anime on platforms like Mag Garden's Mag Comi and LINE Manga in June 2020 but had to pause in September 2020 due to health issues.
