Avex Pictures revealed during their participation in Anime NYC on Thursday the upcoming project from Studio BONES titled "The Magical Girl and The Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies." This new anime is an adaptation of the manga "Katsute Mahō Shōjo de Aku wa Tekitai Shiteita" by the late author Cocoa Fujiwara.

The anime is directed by Akiyo Ohashi, known for their work on "The Stranger by the Shore," while Yuniko Ayana, from "BanG Dream!," is in charge of the script and series composition. Haruko Iizuka, recognized for her work on "Horimiya," is responsible for character design, and the music will be composed by MAYUKO, known for her contributions to "Cells at Work!"

Masahiko Minami, president and producer of Studio BONES, presented the anime at the Avex Pictures panel, following a preview of the project on Tuesday.

The original manga was created by Fujiwara and premiered in Square Enix's Gangan Joker magazine in September 2013. Although the author passed away in March 2015, Square Enix published the third and final compiled volume in March 2016, making the decision in consultation with Fujiwara's family.

The story revolves around Mira, the mastermind behind an evil organization that invades and destroys everything in its path. The plot takes a twist when a magical girl named Byakuya Mimori decides to confront the organization, and Mira falls in love with her at first sight.

Fujiwara, known for her debut with the short story "Calling" in 1999, also serialized the manga "Inu × Boku SS" in Gangan Joker from 2009 to 2014. Her legacy includes the anime series "Inu X Boku Secret Service," released in North America by Sentai Filmworks.
