The official website of the anime based on Yasuhisa Hara's manga Kingdom unveiled on Tuesday the key visual for the upcoming fifth installment, along with the announcement of new and returning cast members.

The fifth season of the anime is scheduled to premiere on NHK General channel on January 6 at 24:00 JST (equivalent to January 7 at midnight JST).

The anime's first TV adaptation occurred in 2012, followed by a second series in 2013. Both were streamed by Funimation in North America and released on DVD in 2016. The third season, which began in April 2020, was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, halting its broadcast after four episodes, but resumed airing in April 2021 from the beginning. Funimation streamed the anime in sync with its Japanese release. The fourth season premiered on NHK General in April 2022, with Crunchyroll as the streaming platform during its broadcast.

Yasuhisa Hara's historical manga centers around Xin, a young slave with the ambition to become a prominent general in the State of Qin. Xin collaborates with Ying Zheng, the young Qin king who shares his vision of unifying China, assisting him in rising to power within the state. The protagonist strives to become the supreme commander of an army capable of defeating the Seven Warring States.

This record-breaking manga debuted in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2006.
