The official X account (formerly Twitter) for "Gekijōban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen" (Haikyu!! The Movie: Decisive Battle at the Trash Dump), the first installment of the final Haikyu!! film project, shared a new 30-second video on Thursday, marking the start of the three-month countdown to the movie's release on February 16.

The release in Japan is scheduled for February 16, and Susumu Mitsunaka, the director of the first and third seasons of the Haikyu!! television anime, directs and writes the script for this movie.

The announcement of these two films was made by the anime team in August 2022. The first film will explore the "predestined showdown" between Karasuno High and Nekoma High schools, and the movie's logo was revealed alongside this announcement.

Haruichi Furudate started the original Haikyu!! manga in 2011 and concluded the series in July 2020. Shueisha published the 45th and final volume of the manga in November 2020. Viz Media is responsible for publishing the manga digitally and in print, making it available simultaneously with its Japanese release. MANGA Plus also offers the manga digitally in English.

The first television adaptation of the manga, produced by Production I.G, debuted in April 2014. The second season arrived in October 2015, followed by the third in October 2016. The first half of the fourth season, "Haikyu!! To The Top," premiered in January 2020, and episode 13 aired in April 2020. The second half, comprising episodes 14 to 25, was originally scheduled for July 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was finally released in October 2020.

This manga has also inspired stage plays, a clay-animated short, anime film compilations, and various anime videos. A new stage play took place from August 19 to 27.
